A full brand identity, delivered on a four-figure envelope

A mining cooperative · field brand programme · Fractional portfolio, since 2024

Can you build a real brand on three thousand one hundred dollars? Yes, if you treat the envelope as a design constraint instead of an excuse. This mandate came through my fractional portfolio: a mining cooperative needed a full brand identity, fast, to stand credibly in front of institutional partners and buyers. No agency within reach, no studio, no time for a three-month branding odyssey.

The programme delivered the complete identity on a four-figure envelope, all in: positioning, name system, visual identity, and the core assets the cooperative needed to operate. The method was a compressed brand sprint, run on the ground: listening before designing, deciding fast with the people who would live with the brand, and spending every dollar where it changes perception.

The interesting part is not the price. It is that premium standards hold under hard constraints when the process is a system, not an act of inspiration. The same discipline that runs a 10-country acquisition machine can run a 3-week brand sprint. This page shows how.

01 · Context

A mining cooperative, dozens of members, real production, real buyers. What it lacked was a face: no identity, no materials, nothing to hand an institutional partner that said « we are organised, we are accountable, we are here to stay ». In its sector, that perception gap costs contracts. The cooperative needed to look like what it already was: serious.

The constraint

Three thousand one hundred dollars, all in, and the figure was fixed before the brief went out. Field conditions: decisions made with a cooperative, meaning many voices and one signature; limited connectivity; no local design ecosystem to lean on. Every deliverable had to be usable by the members themselves after the programme, without a designer on retainer. Premium was still the standard, because the audience was institutional.

03 · The system

1 · Week one: listen and decide.

On site. Understand what the cooperative does, what its buyers and partners need to believe, and what the members are proud of. Positioning written and validated in the room, not by email.

2 · Week two: build the identity.

Visual identity designed against the positioning: name system, marks, colours, typography, and rules simple enough to be applied without a design team. Every choice tested against one question: does this raise institutional trust?

3 · Week three: ship the assets.

The working kit the cooperative actually needed: documents, signage, presentation materials, templates. Delivered with a short guide and a working session so the members could produce their own materials next month.

4 · Spend where perception changes.

The budget went into the few physical touchpoints partners actually see. Nothing was spent on deliverables that flatter the consultant.

04 · Results

Field brand programme, fractional portfolio, since 2024.

05 · What it proves

Premium standards hold under hard constraints. The method scales down as well as it scales up, because it is a method. If your budget is the reason your brand looks improvised, the budget is not the problem.

A brand to build, a constraint to respect?
